Janazah – Funeral Prayer
Janazah Namaz is a funeral prayer spoken in Islam for the person who died. This is standard practice for asking Allah to forgive one’s ancestors. Every observant Muslim must pray the Janazah.
The purpose of the janazaah namaz is to honor the dead. Intercession is granted when a Muslim brother prays the Janazaah namaz for a brother who has passed away. This signifies that Allah accepts their witness for their brother and considers their deeds sufficient for pardon.
How should we pray for a Janazah?
There are two primary recitations in Salat-e-Janazah. Which include:
- Takbeer is said four times.
- Qiyam that happened during the standing prayer of Salaatul Janazaah.

To complete Janazah Namaz, one must:
- To begin the Funeral prayer, one must first form an intention (niyyah).
- Now, listen to Imam. You will act like the Imam by folding your hands in front of you, saying “bismillah”, and then reciting Al-Fatiha.
- Recite the Durood Ibrahim and Takbirs.
- Recite certain Duroods, speak “Allahu Akbar,” and then say “Assalamu ‘AlaikumWarahmatullah” as a form of Salam.
